Danny E. Searls, 78, of Zanesville, passed away peacefully on April 24, 2025, at Genesis Hospice, Morrison House.
Born on April 6, 1947, in Zanesville, he was the son of the late Jack J. and Kathleen V. (Inman) Searls.
Danny was deeply proud of his military service. He served his country with distinction in the United States Army as a member of B Troop, 3/5 CAV, 9th Infantry Division during the Vietnam War. For his bravery and sacrifice, he was awarded the Purple Heart. He remained actively involved in veteran communities, including the VFW Post #1058, the Soldiers and Sailors Monumental Association of Muskingum County, and the Military Order of the Purple Heart.
Following his honorable service in the U.S. Army, Danny went on to work for Ohio Ferro Alloy and Neff Trucking. However, it was at Shelly and Sands where he found his true professional home, dedicating many years to the company with unwavering commitment and pride. He was also a proud and active public servant, having served for several years as a Wayne Township Trustee. Known for his steady work ethic, kind heart, and warm sense of humor, Danny left a lasting impression on everyone he met. Danny was also inducted into the Franklin Local Schools Hall of Fame.
An avid golfer, Danny especially enjoyed competing in his Wednesday night league at Fuller’s Fairways and traveling throughout Ohio for the game he loved. He also took great pride in the care of his yard and found joy in early mornings spent over coffee with friends at the local pub. He was a founding member of the Y-City Hilltoppers Jeep Club, where his adventurous spirit and competitive drive shined.
Above all, Danny was a devoted husband, loving father, and proud “Papaw.” He was the kind of man who made everyone feel like family—welcoming, generous, and never a stranger to anyone.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Kris (Fitz) Searls, whom he married on July 26, 1969; his children, Ali Searls, Tricia (Chad) Huffman, and Dusty “Jake” Searls; his grandson, Fitz Huffman; and his step-grandchildren, Zane (Katelynn), Zach, Ava, and Leon Huffman, whom he loved as his own. He also leaves behind his brother, Rick (Carolyn) Searls; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; his beloved pet cat, Rambo; and a wide circle of treasured friends.
In addition to his parents, Danny was preceded in death by his brother, James “Jimmy” Searls, who passed away on June 5, 2018, and by an infant sister.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made in Danny’s honor to your charity of choice.
A private family service will be held, and Danny will be laid to rest at Duncan Falls Cemetery with full military honors provided by the George Selsam VFW Post #1058 and the U.S. Army Color Guard.
The Farus Funeral Home of Duncan Falls is honored to serve the Searls family.
