Daniel “Dan” Craig Adams, New Concord, OH, passed peacefully at home Wednesday, (March 2, 2016) following a courageous battle with cancer. Dan was born March 28, 1967 in Plainville, Kansas, the son of Donna L. Blehm Adams and the late Warren G. “Pete” Adams. Dan graduated from John Glenn High School in 1985 and received a Bachelor's degree in Sports Sciences from Ohio University followed by a Masters degree in Educational Administration from Muskingum University. He was a member of College Drive Presbyterian Church and attended Cumberland United Methodist Church.
Dan was a well respected veteran athletic director at John Glenn High School in a 22 year administrative career that began at New Lexington High School in 1994. He returned to John Glenn High School in 2007 in the same capacity. He was very active in the Muskingum Valley League, East District, and state level athletic administrator associations. He served in many leadership roles as an athletic administrator including president of the MVL and numerous officer roles on both the Southeast and East District Athletic Boards . He completed a two year term as the Ex-Officio officer on the OHSAA Board of Control in 2005-2007 and served as the tournament director/site director for OHSAA tournament events throughout his career. In 2013 Dan was named the State Athletic Director of the year by his peers. His devotion to high school athletics was the focal point of his life. In addition to his career he was an avid sports fan and enjoyed golfing in his spare time.
In addition to his mother Dan is lovingly remembered by his brother Michael Adams of Canton, Cindy (Randy) McFerren of New Concord, and David (Lori) Adams of Norwich. Nieces and nephews Christopher Adams, Elizabeth Adams, Shawn McFerren (deceased), Ray (Nicole) McFerren, Avery Adams and great nephew Nash McFerren.
A celebration of Dan’s life will be held on Saturday, March 5th at 11:00am. PLEASE NOTE SERVICE LOCATION HAS MOVED!!!!! The services will no longer be held at the College Drive Presbyterian Church of New Concord. The new location will be at the John Glenn High School, located at13115 John Glenn School Rd. Pastor Keith Taylor and Reverend Anne Weirich will officiate and family will receive friends at the Gymnasium from 10:00-11:00 prior to the service. Service will begin promptly at 11:00, per Dan’s wishes. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Genesis Cancer Center or John Glenn High School Athletic Department. Care and services provided by the Farus Funeral Home of New Concord.
