Clarence G. Biegler

Clancy (Clarence G.) Biegler Jr., of Columbus, left his Earthly home March 15, 2015,

after a lengthy illness.  Clancy was born in Columbus on January 12, 1927, the only living child of Clarence Grover and Margaret (Kuhn) Biegler (deceased).  He retired from The Ohio State University as Director of Development for the College of Agriculture. Clancy enlisted in the US Naval Air Corps and began his training on Christmas Day, 1944 as a seventeen-year-old high school senior, and was honorably discharged in 1946.  After his stroke he was privileged to participate in an Honor Flight for WW II. veterans to Washington, D.C.  As a youth Clancy sang in the Columbus Boys Choir and later was a graduate of Central High School (Jan. 1945) where he was Senior Class President and a member of the football and track teams.  He finished 4th in the 120 High Hurdles in the 1944 State Track Meet and was named the Agonis Club Scholar Athlete of the Year in 1945. He attended Muskingum College, where he was a four-year letterman in both football and track and graduated with a BS in 1950.  He was inducted into Muskingum’s Athletic Hall of Fame in 1987.  Clancy began his teaching and coaching career at Brush High School in 1950, moving to Muskingum and then to Baldwin Wallace College where he coached football, swimming and was head track coach from 1956-1957.  He received a Masters Degree in 1956 from Western Reserve University.  He became Director of Admissions at BW in 1958.  In 1962 he moved his family to New Concord, OH where he became Assistant to the President at Muskingum College.  He later served Muskingum as Alumni/Development Director, Director of Admissions and finished there as Director of Development and Planned Giving in 1982.  He then worked at St. Andrews Presbyterian College (NC), Marts & Lundy fundraising consultants, and OSU.  In retirement Clancy enjoyed his pastimes of home remodeling, wood working, playing the guitar and automobile restoration.  He was a member of the Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons, the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite and Shriners International.  He served on the board of the Gladden Community House and was very proud of his successful work on the committee to help persuade COSI to use existing portions of the old Central High School building in their new facility. He is survived by his wife of over 64 years Shirley (Leeper) Biegler and their sons, Chad (Ellen), Kent (Lisa), and Todd (Mary).  There are five grandchildren, Scott, Craig, Kyle, Ross and Elise; and one great grandchild, Evelyn. He also leaves three cousins, Al Biegler, Marcie Hoover and Janet Ioia along with loyal friend Dick Gilmore, all of the Columbus area.   Friends may call at the Schoedinger Northwest Chapel from 4:00 to 7:00 PM on Wednesday, March 18, or at Farus Funeral Home in New Concord, OH from 12:00 to 3:00 PM on Thursday, March 19.  A burial service will follow in Northwood Cemetery, Cambridge, OH.  A Memorial Service will be held at Clancy’s home church, Trinity United Methodist in Marble Cliff on Saturday, April 11 at 10:00 AM.  Donations may be made to The Gladden Community House, 183 Hawkes Ave. Columbus, OH 43223 in his memory.
