Zanesville

Charles E. Jones, 82 of Zanesville, passed away peacefully from an extended illness on November 27, 2021 at the Morrison House while under the care of Genesis Hospice.

Charles was born in Zanesville on July 27, 1939.  He is the son of the late Charles E. and Katherine (Comer) Jones.  He was the previous owner of The Clock Restaurant, Hilltop Cafe and co-owner of Smitty’s Cafe.  He retired in 1994 as a superintendent from the Davis-Besse Nuclear Power Plant in Ottawa County, Ohio.  He previously worked for Jeffrey Manufacturing, and was a millwright for over 50 years.  After retiring he enjoyed working in his own metal and woodshop on his beloved farm.  He was an avid outdoorsman, who enjoyed hunting and fishing and he was the owner and Captain of the Lida Rose fishing charter on Lake Erie.  He was a member of the Zanesville FOE #302, a member of Irville Masonic Lodge # 184 F&AM and a 32nd degree Mason.  He especially enjoyed his ‘ice cream dates’ with his two daughters at Tom’s Ice Cream Bowl and also taking care of his beloved poodles.

Charles is survived by his two daughters, Carolyn Sue Davis and Anita Kay (Andrew) Smith; his special friend, Helen Brown and his grandchildren, Jeremy Coulson, Alexes Schwarz and Anthony Schwarz; his great granddaughter, Madison Coulson; and a special cousin, George Slack.

In addition to his parents, Charles is preceded in death by his sister, Evelyn Temple; and a special cousin, Carl Houston.

In keeping with his wishes a caring cremation will take place and a celebration of his life will take place at a later date.  The Farus Funeral Home of Duncan Falls is caring for the Jones family.
