Charles Frederick Gerdau went to be with the Lord on November 1st, 2016, while in the loving presence of his family. He was born April 28th, 1944 in Bellaire, Ohio to Albert A. and Mildred (messenger) Gerdau. He was a graduate of Union Local High School. He was a proud member of the US Navy, and served as a Seabee (Construction Battalion) for most of his service time. He retired from Amtek March Electric after 30 years of dedicated service. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, and volunteering with the Byesville Scenic Railway. He also belonged to the Buffalo Post 8040 VFW.
He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, James Gerdau and Edward Gerdau, and a great-grandson, Grant L. Gerdau. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Ruth A. (Rankin) Gerdau, whom he married on January 6th, 1966. He also leaves to cherish his memory his children, including his sons, Charles F. Gerdau, Jr. of Derwent, and Robert E. (Bonnie) Gerdau of Byesville, his daughters, Patricia A. Gerdau of Derwent, and April L. (Donald) Covert of Lore City. He will be lovingly remembered by his sisters, Marge (Darvin) Tomes of Florida, Mary (Blaine) Cordery of Powhatan Point, Ohio, Mildred (Roy) Allen of Buffalo, Ohio, and Linda Mosser of Senecaville, Ohio; as well as eight grandchildren, Dustin (Rachel) Gerdau of New Concord, Cory Stone of Derwent, Anthony Gerdau of Derwent, Courtney R. Gerdau of Clayton, NC, Jacob R. Gerdau of Byesville, Ashley (Chuck) Long of Sarahsville, Ohio, Elizabeth Covert of Lore City, Olivia Covert of Lore City, and five great-grandchildren, Hadley, Charley, Gabe, Grady, and Gabby as well as several nieces and nephews. The family is being cared for by the Farus Funeral Home of New Concord. Per their wishes a cremation will follow with a memorial service to be held at a later date.
