Charles Richard Bailey

Charles "Chuck" Richard Bailey, 86 of Cumberland, passed away at 9:50 am, Friday, December 27, 2013 at the Becket House in New Concord. Chuck was born March 9, 1927 in Dayton, OH the son of the late William Ernest and Edna (Cariens) Bailey. He was a long time dairy and beef farmer, He retired after 32 years with the Central Ohio Coal Company where he held many jobs including oiler and operator of many drag lines and shovels including the Big Muskie. He was a member of the United Mine Workers #1604 and the Guernsey County Farm Bureau. He served his country in the US Navy serving in the South Pacific during WWII aboard the USS Tulagi. He was known for his many stories and a joke for every occasion. He was a wonderful Husband, Father, Grandfather and friend to all. Chuck is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 65 years, Mary Elizabeth (Watson) Bailey whom he married July 3, 1948; his daughter Sandy (Carl) Wickham of Cumberland and his son Chuck Jr. (Jill) Bailey of Zanesville; his grandchildren Craig Wickham, Drew (Tabitha) Wickham and Erin Bailey; a special great grandson Jake Bailey and several nieces, nephews, cousins, special neighbors and friends. In addition to his parents, Chuck is preceded in death by his brothers Earl Bailey and Harvey Bailey and his sisters Florence Prophter, Mary Rose, Betty Lyon and Peggy Hickle. Memorial contributions to the Cumberland EMS, 444 West Main Street, Cumberland, OH 43732. Visitations will be 3 to 7 pm Monday, December 30, 2013 at the Farus Funeral Home of Cumberland where funeral services will be 11 am Tuesday with Rev. Paul Thomas officiating. He will be laid to rest in Cumberland Cemetery with full Military Honors
