Carol J. Bates

Carol J. (Maxwell) Bates, 71, of Zanesville, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, April 6, 2025.

Carol was born on April 3, 1954, in Zanesville. She is the daughter of the late Billy W. Sr. and Fauna L. (Warne) Maxwell. Carol graduated from Philo High School, Zane State, and the University of Findley. Carol retired from Lear after 37 years. She enjoyed golfing, but she especially loved spending time with her family and most importantly her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She rarely missed any of their special events, sporting events, or birthdays. They were her world.

Carol is survived by her loving husband, John F. Bates Sr., whom she married on June 1, 1985; her brother, Billy W. Maxwell Jr.; her step-sister, Debbie (Gary) Dingey; her stepsons, John (Leona) Bates Jr., Chad (Melissa) Bates; her daughter-in-law, Shelly Kemp; her grandchildren, Kayla (Eric) Jackson, Kyle (Sydney) Bates, and Calli Bates; her great-grandchildren, Adrienne, Amari, Zaire Jackson, Dallas, Jaxson, Dawson, and Nash Bates; her step-grandsons, Matthew (Heather) Dingey and Jason (Jennifer) Dingey; her step-great grandchildren, Kaylee, Karsyn, Hannah, Anzleigh, Cy; her niece and nephew, Jeana Cogswell and Thomas (Teresa) Maxwell; her special cousin, Joy (RV) Keshav; as well as her special friends, Leslie Hoskinson, Dee Mauri, Darla Mason, Lynn Petree, and Cathy Mohler.

In addition to her parents, Carol is preceded in death by her step-mother, Betty Maxwell; her brother, Tom Maxwell; as well as a special friend, Gloria Gormley.

Visitations will be held from 4 PM to 7 PM on Thursday, April 10, 2025, at the Farus Funeral Home of Duncan Falls. A funeral service will be held the following day at 11 AM on Friday at the funeral home. Pastor Jamie Harrop will officiate the service. Carol will be laid to rest in Duncan Falls Cemetery.
