Carl Ruby

March 10, 1932 — February 1, 2014

Carl "Gene" E. Ruby, 81, of New Concord passed away at 4 pm, Saturday, February 1, 2014 at Cambridge Health and Rehab Center. He was born in Cambridge, Ohio to the late Carl and Margaret Ruby on March 10th, 1932. At the age of 14 Gene went to work in Caldwell at a farm putting up hay, and at 16 he started working for Morrow Construction; which worked for the Ohio Bell Telephone Company. From there he worked for Hoss in Michigan and then Hinkle McCoy. In December of 1953 he entered the US Army in 1955, proudly serving in Korea, until he was honorably discharged. In 1956 he started working for Guernsey Muskingum, where he worked for 36 years until retiring as a Project Superintendent. He had a love for farming and that is how he spent his retirement years. Gene was a straightforward man. You always knew where he stood on a subject, and he was not afraid to tell you his thoughts. He was always direct, and applied his no-nonsense sensibilities to his work. He was a hard and dedicated worker, and thought fondly of his time in the military. He was a true patriot. Gene is survived by his loving wife of 60 years Cecelia J. (Hanna) Ruby, whom he married on October 23rd, 1953; his two sons William (Cheri) Ruby, and James (Becky) Ruby, of Pataskala; a grandson, Dylan Thomas Ruby, and several step-grandchildren; his brother, William F. Ruby, of Murry, KY; his sisters, Betty Mae Douglas, of Cambridge, Dorothy Morrow, of New Concord, and Marge Glandstone, of Hebron, OH, as well as several nieces and nephews. A viewing for Gene will be held on Tuesday, February 4th at the Farus Funeral Home of New Concord, formerly the Mock-Miller Funeral Home, 63 W. Main Street; with calling hours from 2-4PM, and 6-8PM. On Wednesday, Feb. 5th there will be a viewing at beginning at 10am, with services starting promptly at 11AM. Burial will be held at the Bloomfield Cemetery with full Military Honors provided by Guernsey County Veterans Council. www.farusfh.com
