Betty Lou LePage, of New Concord, passed away peacefully with her family at her side, while in the care of Southeastern Medical Center on Monday, March 21, 2016, she was 73 years old.  Betty was born on December 15, 1942, in Zanesville, Ohio to the late Wayne and Hazel (Martin) Swingle.

Betty worked for The Ohio Bell Phone Company as a switchboard operator for eight years, after a gap of 24 years while she raised her family she continued her career by working for Southeastern Regional Medical Center for another thirteen years as a switchboard operator until her retirement. Upon her retirement, she volunteered at the hospital for another seven years at the Registration Desk.

Betty was first and foremost a full-time mother, housewife and volunteer; she never missed one of her children’s sporting events either home or away.  She was very proud of her community and passionate about her family and her church members.  Betty loved to volunteer her time. She spent countless hours helping with her own and her husband’s, class reunions, helping out with the PTO and the PTO craft bazaars. She served on the Farm Bureau Council, as a church Trustee, a member of the women’s circle and she was very active in the church choir.  She loved spending time making pillows for heart patients and prayer shawls for her friends.  She also loved chatting on the phone.

Betty loved to play cards with her family, make hard tack candy, and was the family genealogist.  Her applesauce was nationally known and revered.  She enjoyed canning food, baking pies, and doing crossword puzzles.  She treasured the time she spent with her family sharing her love of music, whether it was playing the organ or listening to country music. One of her favorite past time activities was square dancing where she met her husband of 51 years, Kenneth.

She made wedding dresses and vests for over 12 different wedding parties and she served as a 4-H advisor for over two decades.  She also loved sewing, knitting, crocheting, and quilting.  She passed her love of the craft of sewing and knitting to her children, grandchildren and church friends.  Betty was a fifty year member of the New Concord United Methodist Church.

In addition to her parents, Betty is preceded in death by her son, Brian Kenneth LePage, her father-in-law, Edgar LePage, mother-in-law, Edna LePage, nephew, Douglas Morrow, brother-in-law, Miles LePage, and her sister-in-law, Connie (Hiram) Seene.

Carnegie.  She is also deeply missed by her siblings, Jean Marie (Charles) Morrow, and Phyllis (Steve) McElhaney; as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.  The family would like to extend a Thank-You to all of their church friends and neighbors for the tremendous support they have shown their family.
