Betty Blackstone

Viola Elizabeth "Betty" Schwallie Blackstone, 91 of Philo, passed away July 10, 2014 at Adams Lane Care Center in Zanesville on her 91st birthday. Betty was born July 10, 1923 in Lewisville, OH, the daughter of the late Vincent and Eva Schwallie. She was a member of the former St. Ann's Catholic Church in Philo and is a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Zanesville. She retired from United Technologies on Linden Avenue in 1995. Betty is survived by her children, Clark V. Blackstone of Stockport, OH, Flora K. Waite of Spencer, WV, Loren G. (Jane) Blackstone of Lexington, OH, Rod Blackstone (Sally) of Newark, OH; Ed (Donna) Blackstone of Fort Wayne, IN, Richard W. (Becky) Blackstone of Hillard, OH, and Ann (Alan) Fitz of Philo, OH; 20 grandchildren, Missy, Jason, Erin, Jacob, Lauren, Todd, Beth, Ben, Arica, Donita, Doug, Amber, Amy, Daniel, David, John, Niki, Jennifer, Jessica and Justin, 31 Great Grandchildren, her special neighbors Bob and Linda Pletcher and her special friend and roommate Frances Johnson. In addition to her parents, Betty is preceded in death by her husband, Paul Blackstone, who passed away April 16, 1998, her son-in-law Jim Waite and her great granddaughter, Ryan Risch. The family would like to give a special thanks to the staff and friends at Adams Lane Care Center and to Genesis Hospice for all their love and support. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions in Betty's name to Genesis Hospice, Morrison House, 713 Forest Avenue, Zanesville, 43701. Visitations will be 5 to 8 pm Sunday and from 11 to 1 pm Monday at the Farus Funeral Home of Duncan Falls, where funeral services will be held at 1 pm with Fr. Peter Fegan, O.P. officiating. She will be laid to rest in St. Ann's Cemetery, Philo. Prayer service will be held 7 pm Sunday evening. www.farusfh.com
