Alan Dale Smith, 70 of Zanesville, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 21, 2024, at the Genesis Hospice Morrison House with his loving family by his side.

Alan was born on July 14, 1953, in Cambridge. He is the son of the late John L. and Nellie (Pickens) Smith.

Alan honorably served in the United States Army. He was an avid outdoorsman that especially loved to sit out by the river. Alan also enjoyed the time he spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Alan is survived by his daughter, Michelle (Jerry) Lewis and Torri Savage; his many grandchildren, Kelsey, Brett, Tyler, Tiffany, Jessica, Zecharyah; his great-grandchildren, Adin and Wenston; his brother, John Smith; as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.

In addition to his parents, Alan is preceded in death by his brother, Leonard Tolewitz, and an infant brother Frank Marvin.

The family would like to thank the staff at Genesis Hospital, especially, Three East and Three North, for their care and compassion towards Alan.

Visitations will be held from 4 pm to 5 pm on Wednesday, January 24, 2024, at the Farus Funeral Home of New Concord. Funeral services will follow Alan at 5 pm at the funeral home. Chaplain William Blair will officiate the service. Full military honors will be provided by the United States Color Guard.
