Teresa Essex Obituary

Teresa M. Essex of New Concord passed away peacefully in her home on Monday, December 10, 2018 while in the loving presence of her family, she was 55 years old. She was born in Nelsonville, Ohio on July 9, 1963 to William and Shirley (Siler) Essex. Teresa was born with Rett syndrome, and Bill and Shirley always viewed her as being a special gift from God, and believed that she lived a full and happy life due to the loving care that she received. She attended Starlight School in Zanesville for many years, and deeply enjoyed being a part of the community and visiting with people. One of her favorite activities was going out and about the village. She was a member of the Stop Nine Church of Christ in Byesville; where she belonged to a large and loving church family. Teresa had a large collection of red headed dolls and enjoyed watching movies.

Teresa will be deeply missed by her brother, Brett (Melissa) Essex of New Concord, as well as numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. She is preceded in death by her grandparents, Luke and Maxine Siler and Ernest and Mary Essex, her father, William Essex, and her mother, Shirley (Siler) Essex, her aunt, Jean Prewitt, and her cousins, Justin Siler and Stephen Parker.

Visitations will be held at the Farus Funeral home of New Concord on Friday, December 14, 2018 from 5 to 8PM and a short service and committal will take place at 7:30 PM. A private burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery. The family wishes to extend a special thanks and gratitude to the many caregivers who provided Teresa exceptional care over the years. Though too numerous to list, the most recent have included Kissena Crawford, Jeanne Hayes, Kimberly Joseph, Kensie Mock, Jessica Leckrone, and family friend, Belinda Sowers. The family requests that in lieu of flowers that donations be made to the New Concord FireDepartment, 2 W Main St, New Concord, OH 43762.
