Roger Leverre Hayes, 88, of New Concord, passed peacefully on May 22, 2018. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and uncle. Roger was the third of six children born to the former Dewey and Clarice (Morrison) Hayes. He was born on March 25, 1930. He grew up in Westland Township and graduated from New Concord High School in 1949. He married Betty Selock on February 24, 1951 in Richmond, IN and they made their home in New Concord, Ohio where they raised eight children. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, reading Louis L'Amour Westerns, cutting grass, and working around the house. He was also a member of the Eagles of Cambridge. He worked for Champion Spark Plug until he retired around 1994. He was loved and appreciated by all who knew him. He will be greatly missed.
Roger is survived by his eight children Ron (Lurenda) Hayes, of Hebron, OH, Bill Hayes, of Heath, OH, Rusty (Debbie) Hayes, of Evansville, WY, Tancy (Dennis) Johnson, of Syracuse, UT, Dennis (Theresa) Hayes of Cambridge, OH, Tim Hayes, of Tampa, FL, Donald (Peggy) Hayes, of Norwich, OH, Pam (Lonnie) Brown, of Casper, WY; as well as more than 30 grandchildren, and over 40 great-grandchildren, and his sisters, Elloise Coleman and Nancy Hayes. He will be deeply missed by his many nieces, nephews, and other family members. He is preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife of over 60 years, Betty (Selock) Hayes, two brothers, Dale Hayes and Dean Hayes, and his sister, Mary Lois Hammond.
Visitations will be held at the Farus Funeral Home of New Concord on Monday, May 28, 2018 from 10AM to 12 Noon. Services will begin at Noon, and he will be laid to rest in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery of New Concord. Pastor Chris Steele of the North Terrace Church of Christ in Zanesville will officiate the service. In lieu of flowers, request that a donation be made in Roger Hayes' name to the Alzheimer's Assocation of Central Ohio, 1379 Dublin Rd., Columbus, Ohio 43215.
