John McKendry Obituary

John E. McKendry, 72, was called home to the Lord in the early morning hours of Monday, May 21, 2018 while he was in the loving presence of his family; he had been under the care of the Astoria Place of Cambridge. John was born in Zanesville, Ohio on October 12, 1945 to Lester and Charlotte (Bliss) McKendry. He was the owner and Operator of Muskie Automotive for many years. He also sold real estate. John loved to spend time with his family, particularly his grandchildren, play golf, and go antiquing with his wife. He enjoyed sports, and coached baseball and refereed basketball for area children. He was also a member of the Board of Trade for many years, as well as the 200 Club.

John is survived by his wife of 51 years, Lucille (West) McKendry, whom he married on June 18th, 1967. He leaves to cherish his memory, his son, Jeff McKendry, and his daughter, Laurie (Andrew) Finley, his grandchildren, Jackson and Luke McKendry, and Ethan (Abbie) Finley, Erin Finley, and Logan Finley, as well as his sister, Evelyn Hayes (Patick O’rourke), his sisters-in-law, Jean McKendry, Cindy McKendry, and Sarah West, and his brother-in-law, Dal Wycoff. He is preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Betty McKendry, brother, Jim McKendry, brother, Don McKendry, and brother, Robert McKendry.

Friends and family are welcome to attend calling hours for John at the Farus Funeral Home of New Concord on Friday, May 25, 2018 from 4 to 8PM. Services will be held on the Saturday morning of the 26th at the funeral home at 11AM, with friends welcome to enter at 10:30AM. Burial will follow at the Norwich Presbyterian Cemetery, Pastors Jim Gibson and Keith Taylor will officiate the service. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Hospice of Guernsey, 9711 E Pike Rd, Cambridge, OH 43725 or the Rix Mills Presbyterian Church, 2770 Rix Mills Rd, New Concord, OH 43762.
