Gerald Maguire

Gerald Q. Maguire, 96, of Ligonier, PA, passed away on Sunday, November 5, 2017 while visiting one of his daughters in South Carolina.

Born on March 25, 1921, in Saltsburg, PA, he was a son of John W. and Lotta Blanche (Gregg) of Saltsburg. Gerald was a graduate of Saltsburg High School. He received his bachelor degree from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and his master degree from the University of Pittsburgh.

Gerald was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church. He was a 74-year member of Williamson Masonic Lodge #431 of Pennsylvania and a member of the Latrobe Order of the Eastern Star. He was retired from Ligonier Valley School District where he had been a math teacher and then a junior high principal. Gerald was devoted to his family, especially his wife and sweetheart, Peggy, with whom he shared over 65 wonderful years. Gerald enjoyed tinkering and especially appreciated a fellow tinkerer and friend, Roger Sidehammer.

Gerald was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and several sisters-in-law and a son-in-law. In addition to his beloved wife, Margaret, he is survived by his four children, Gerald (Marilyn) of Stockholm, Sweden, Marsha (John) Roth of Wheeling, WV, Nancy (Paul) Rhodes of Chapin, SC, and Joyce Williams of Savannah, GA; five grandchildren and four great grandchildren; several sisters-in-laws; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held in Chapin, SC and burial will be in New Concord Cemetery in New Concord, Ohio. A burial of ashes will take place on Saturday, December 2nd, 2017 at 1pm.

The family suggests memorial contributions in Gerald’s memory be made to the Ligonier Valley Library, 120 West Main Street, Ligonier, PA 15658.
