Charles Smith Obituary

Charles R. “Pete” Smith, 79 of Philo, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on August 18, 2019 at the Morrison House while under the care of Genesis Hospice.

Pete was born in Zanesville on February 9, 1940.  He is the son of the late Clifford Dale and Esther Louella (Harrop) Smith.  He retired after 30 years working for Ohio Bell Telephone. He attended St. John’s Lutheran Church in Philo.  He enjoyed traveling, and was an avid sports fan of the OSU Buckeyes football and basketball teams and the Cincinnati Reds.  His family was his pride and joy and he loved spending as much time as he could with his children and grandchildren. He proudly served his country in the US Army as part of the 342nd Military Police Company.

Pete is survived by his wife of 57 years, Shelby (Fisher) Smith, whom he married, October 22, 1961; his two sons, Greg (Ronda) Smith of Hillsboro and Jeff (Jennifer) Smith of Wilmington, OH; his grandchildren, Zachary, Madison, Benjamin, Quinton and Ellie and his brother, Gary M. Smith of Roswell, NM.

In addition to his parents, Pete is preceded in death by his brother Clifford D. Smith Jr.

 

Visitations will be 6 to 8 pm on Wednesday, August 21, 2019 and from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm on Thursday at the Farus Funeral Home of Duncan Falls.  Funeral services will be held 11 am on Friday with Pastor Steve Harrop officiating.  He will be laid to rest in Duncan Falls Cemetery with full Military Honors provided by George Selsam Post #1058, American Legion Post #29 and the US Army Color Guard.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Nick and Nancy Sarap Cancer Center or Morrison House- Genesis Hospice Care.
