Alta Thorla Obituary

Alta Euretta Jones Thorla, 90, passed away due to pneumonia and cardiac arrest on Friday, July 20, 2018, at Licking Memorial Hospital while in the loving presence of her daughter, Diane, and her best friend, Linda Talbert. Alta was the youngest of seven children, five sisters, deceased; Clara Garrett, Ruby Taylor, Margaret Wheeler, Mary Baker, Gladys Murphy, and the only brother, Carl Jones. Alta was born October 08, 1927 in Muskingum County, and graduated from New Concord High School with Honors in 1945. Alta was employed by the Franklin Local School District as a secretary for 22 years, retiring in 1989. She was united in marriage to Archie Eugene Thorla on June 25, 1945 for a marriage of 73 years and was the loving mother of her children, David Thorla, Diane Thorla-Handy (Glenn Handy) and her granddaughter, Michala Handy of Granville. Alta’s enjoyment was spending time with her cherished granddaughter, Michala, and working outdoors.
Alta was recently preceded in death by her husband, Archie, on May 24th, 2018, and her son, David, deceased in July 30th, 2007. Alta, was a long time member of the Trinity United Presbyterian. Visiting hours will held at the Farus Funeral Home of Duncan Falls on Wednesday, July 25th, 2018 from 1 to 2PM, with the funeral beginning at 2PM. Funeral services will be conducted by Phil Walker, and a private burial will be held at Memorial Park of Zanesville with Farus Funeral Home of Duncan Falls caring for the family.
