Steve Farus

Funeral Director

Steve is a native of Chandlersville and is a 1971 graduate of Philo High School. He graduated in 1979 from Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science, after which he worked for Clyde Thompson until he bought the Funeral Home in January 1985.

He is married to DuAnne (Duvall) and they have three children, Scott (Alicia) Farus, Matt (Autumn) Farus and Stacey (Sam) Smith. They have six grandchildren Cody, Madisyn, Brandon, Austin, KyAnne and Conner.

Steve is a Navy Veteran serving during the Vietnam War. He is a  member of Chandlersville United Methodist Church, is Assistant Chief of the Duncan Falls Volunteer Fire Department, clerk of the Duncan Falls Cemetery Association, a member of F&AM Anchor Lodge # 283 where he has served as Master, an honorary member of Gage & Gavel Lodge # 448, a member of Olive Branch Chapter #251 OES,and Amrou Grotto #52.  He is a past President of the Ohio Funeral Directors Association, District 13. He was honored with the Sertoma Service to Mankind award for the Zanesville Sertoma Club.

Matthew and his wife Autumn were married in 2000, they are the proud parents of two boys, Austin and Conner.

Matt is a 1992 graduate of Philo High School, he attended Ohio University in Athens and graduated in 1995 with a bachelor’s degree from the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science.

Matt is a member of the Duncan Falls United Methodist Church, The Philo-Duncan Falls Lions Club, Anchor Lodge #283, and a current President and board member of the Muskingum County Library.  He retired from the Wayne Township Fire Department after serving for 29 years.

Matt joined the Thompson-Farus Funeral Home in May of 1995 and took over ownership of the funeral home in 2012 when it was renamed the Farus Funeral Home.

Don Cassady

Don Cassady

Funeral Assistant

Don and his wife Rhonda were married in 1989. They are the proud parents of Eric(Mary) Cassady, Nick(Rachel) Cassady, Tyler Cassady and Taylor Cassady. They have four grandchildren Camryn, Carsyn, Cora and Raylan.   

Don is a 1978 graduate of Philo High School. He retired from United Parcel Service in 2014 after 30 years of service. He served on the Franklin Local Board of Education for 16 years.   

Don joined Farus Funeral Home in 2018. 


Sue Savage

Sue Savage

Administrative Assistant

Sue has been associated with The Thompson Farus Funeral Home, now that Farus Funeral Home since 1985. She enjoys greeting people and helping with anything in their time of need.

She lives in Philo and has one son Kipp, one grandson Tim, and one great grandson Grady.

She retired from Time Warner cable after 41 years of service. She is a member of the Duncan Falls United Methodist Church in the Duncan Falls cemetery association.

She loves to help others whenever needed in her spare time she likes to read work outside and has a passion of working with flower arrangement especially for decorating loved ones graves. 


Marlene Henderson

Marlene Henderson

Administrative Assistant

Marlene is a lifelong resident of Muskingum County. She is a graduate of Zanesville High School but has made the Philo/Duncan Falls area her home for many years.

Marlene recently retired from the American Red Cross after 20 years and serving as the Executive Director of the South East Chapter for the last eight years. Marlene also served on the Animal Shelter Board for many years.

Marlene is married to Marc Henderson and they have three children, Maria (Aaron) Vousden, Marcie (David) Moore, and Mitch (Mary) Henderson. They are the very proud grandparents to eight grandchildren.
