Virgil B. Knicely was called home to the Lord on Monday, October 29th, 2018; he was 93 years old. He was born in St. Clairsville, Ohio on March 10th, 1925 to the late Warrick M. and Jesse I. (Davenport) Knicely. He married the love of his life, Mary L. Burwell, on October 22nd, 1949. Virgil owned and operated a hardware store in New Concord, Ohio for a number of years, and worked for American Electric Power in Gallipolis until he retired in 1987. He then spent the next seven years travelling the country with his wife in an RV, and served with RVICS, Roving Volunteers in Christ’s Service.
He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Mary L. Knicely, his daughters, Molly A. (Tom) Hartman, Amy S. (Jeff) Baker, and Pamela J. (Charlie) Alley. He will be deeply missed by his grandchildren, Michelle (Kyle) Johnston, Tim (Margie) Hartman, Jessica Koney, and Matt Baker, his great- granddaughter, Pearl Johnston, his sister-in-law, Mary M. Knicely, and his brother-in-law, Bill Burwell. He is predeceased by his parents, his sisters, Velma Snook and Glenna Hamilton, and his brother, Norris Knicely.
Friends and family are welcome to attend calling hours for Virgil at the Farus Funeral Home of New Concord on Saturday, November 3rd at 11AM. A procession to St. Paul Cemetery will begin at 12PM, where the burial will take place. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
