John H. Crawford, Sr.

John H. Crawford, Sr. of Cambridge passed away peacefully on November 18th, 2014 surrounded by his loving family while in the care of the Beckett House.  He was born February 15th, 1929 in New Concord, Ohio; the son of the Late Joseph and Mary (Ott) Crawford.  Mr. Crawford retired from the Tennessee Gas Pipeline Co. after 38 years of service.  He was a member of the Claysville United Methodist Church.  John loved spending time with his family, and enjoyed gardening, fishing, and hunting.  He enjoyed telling jokes, and making people laugh, and was a huge Ohio State Buckeyes fan.  John Cherished the time he spent playing with his kids, and loved sled riding with them.  He taught his daughter to hunt, and was a deft hand when it came to growing potatoes and tomatoes.
    In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by a son,  a daughter, five brothers, and three sisters.  He is survived by his loving wife, Grace (Bench) Crawford, whom he married October 20th, 1950 as well as his son, John (Flo) Crawford, Jr. of Cambridge, his daughter, Mary Ann (Dan) Tom of Cambridge, his daughter, Linda (Dave) Metz of Norwich, daughter, Debbie (Rick) Neff of Norwich, and daughter, Gracie (Jody) Bertini of Senecaville; his three sisters, June Riggins of Canton, Ethel (Eugene) McElroy of Byesville, and Joy Crawford of New Concord.  John was blessed with fifteen grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
    Calling hours and services for John will be held at the Farus Funeral Home of New Concord on Friday, November, 21st.  Friends and family may gather from 11am to 2pm, with services starting promptly at 2pm, with Pastor Gary Fitzgerald officiating.  Burial will follow services, and take place at the Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery in Highland Township.  The family wishes to extend their thanks to the staff of the Beckett House for their care and support.
