James R. Hughes

James R. “Jim” Hughes, 87 of Cumberland, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, March 22, 2017 at his residence.  Jim was born in Londonderry, Ohio on May 12, 1929.  He is the son of the late Wesley B and Gladys (Thompson) Hughes.  He worked for Volkswagen Automobile as a Master Mechanic for over 25 years.  He was an aviation enthusiast who had his private pilot’s license and often flew his own plane.  He attended the Buffalo Presbyterian Church in Cumberland and he served his country in the US Air Force.

Jim is survived by his loving with of 48 years, Katherine L. (Howard) Hughes, whom he married December 12, 1968; Wesley B. Hughes of Utah, Raymond Hughes of the home and his daughter Joy Ann Edwards-Hughes and several grandchildren.

Jim is preceded in death by his two sons Richard and James Hughes Jr; his daughter Patricia Hughes; one brother Dwight Hughes and two sisters Frances and Betty Jean Hughes.

An outside funeral will take place at 11 am on Friday, March 24, 2017 at the graveside in the Cumberland Cemetery with Pastor Jim Gibson officiating.   Full military honors will be provided by the Guernsey County VFW Post #2901.  The Farus Funeral Home is entrusted with caring for the Hughes family.
